Pallets & accessories
A Gaylord is only half a system. Lids, caps, liners, banding, corner boards and pallets turn a loose box into a stable, protected, stackable unit load — new or reclaimed, matched to your spec.
Need the parts that complete the load?
Tell us the box, footprint and quantity and we'll spec the accessories.
Accessories are the difference between a box and a shippable unit load. The core kit is lids and top caps, bottom caps, poly liners, banding, and corner boards, all riding on a recycled or reconditioned pallet. Get these right and your Gaylords stack safely, stay clean and survive the freight lane — get them wrong and even the best box fails on the dock.
Damage claims are almost never the box's fault
When a load arrives crushed, leaning or wet, the box takes the blame — but nine times out of ten the failure is in the accessories. A pallet with a broken deck board that let the base rack. A missing corner board that let the strap saw into the edge. A skipped liner that let humidity into the product. No liner, no lid, no unitizing film — just a good box trusting the road to be gentle. It never is.
Think of a unit load as a stack of jobs. The pallet carries weight and sets the footprint. The liner keeps moisture and dust out. The box holds the product. The lid or cap lets you stack a second load on top without crushing the first. Corner boards and banding lock it all together, and stretch film makes it one rigid object that survives a forklift, a dock and a thousand miles. Get every layer right and the whole thing becomes boringly reliable — which, on a shipping dock, is exactly what you want.
Accessories at a glance
Everything that goes on, in or under the box. Mix new and reclaimed to hit your budget.
| Accessory | Purpose | Options |
|---|---|---|
| Gaylord lids / top caps | Cap and protect the load; enable safe stacking and cleaner freight. | Single/double/triple-wall; sized to your box footprint |
| Bottom caps / trays | Add a rigid base, keep product off the pallet and ease handling. | Full-depth trays or shallow caps; matched to wall grade |
| Full-telescoping covers | A cap that slides the full height of the box for total enclosure. | Weather, dust and tamper protection for tall loads |
| Gaylord liners / poly bags | Moisture, dust and contamination barrier for the interior. | Gusseted, flat or form-fit; food-grade and anti-static options |
| Gaylord bins (rigid) | Reusable rigid bulk containers for repeat, closed-loop runs. | Collapsible and fixed-wall; plastic and hybrid options |
| Banding / straps | Secure the box, lid and load to the pallet as one stable unit. | Poly, PET or steel strapping; buckles, seals and tools |
| Corner boards / edge protectors | Spread strap tension and shield edges from crush and abrasion. | V-board and U-board in multiple lengths and thicknesses |
| Stretch film | Unitize the load and lock the stack for transit. | Hand and machine film; clear, opaque and pre-stretch |
| VCI liners & sheets | Vapor-corrosion-inhibitor barrier that protects bare metal. | Bags, liners and interleaving for parts and castings |
| Kraft dunnage & void fill | Fill gaps and cushion product for the road. | Paper pads, cut sheets and honeycomb blocking |
| Recycled / reconditioned pallets | Carry the whole unit load and match a standard footprint. | GMA 48×40 and custom; recycled, reconditioned or new |
Lids and caps are sized to the box footprint — if you are ordering used Gaylords, we match the accessories to the exact size and wall grade so nothing arrives loose or oversized.
Recycled & reconditioned pallets
The pallet carries everything. We supply them the same way we supply boxes — reused first, new only when needed.
Recycled
Sorted, sound used pallets in standard GMA 48×40 and common sizes. The greenest, most economical base for most loads.
Reconditioned
Used pallets repaired to a consistent standard — new boards, re-nailed and inspected — for programs that need reliability.
New & custom
First-run and custom-footprint pallets for export, heavy loads or automated handling where spec is critical.
| Pallet type | Footprint | Construction | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMA / grocery | 48″ × 40″ | Stringer | The North American standard; groceries, CPG, most freight |
| Euro (EPAL) | 47.2″ × 31.5″ | Block | International lanes and European supply chains |
| Half / display | 48″ × 20″ | Stringer/block | Retail display and small-format loads |
| Square | 48″ × 48″ | Block | Drums, coils and wide, heavy product |
| 48 × 45 | 48″ × 45″ | Stringer | Automotive and heavier industrial loads |
| Custom footprint | Built to spec | Stringer/block | Export (ISPM-15), automation and odd product |
Stringer pallets use solid runners and take a forklift from two sides; block pallets use nine feet and enter from all four, which handling automation and pallet jacks prefer. Bound for export? Ask for heat-treated, ISPM-15 stamped stock so your load clears customs without a fumigation surprise.
Food-grade & moisture-barrier options
Some loads need more than a plain liner. When the product is edible, hygroscopic or made of bare metal, the barrier is the whole ballgame.
FDA-compliant liners
Virgin-resin poly bags and box liners rated for direct food contact — for bulk ingredients, produce, grain and processed goods. Gusseted, flat or form-fit to the box.
Sealed & desiccant-ready
Heavier-gauge and foil-laminate liners that keep humidity out of hygroscopic powders and electronics. Pair with desiccant packs for long transit or storage.
Corrosion protection
Vapor-corrosion-inhibitor film and interleaving that shields bare and machined metal from rust in transit — no oils, no cleanup on the far end.
Assemble a complete unit load
From bare pallet to shippable, double-stackable freight — in the order the pros do it.
Start with a sound pallet
Pick the footprint that matches your box and lane — GMA 48×40 for most US freight. Check deck boards and stringers; a weak base undermines everything above it.
Line, then load
Drop in a liner if the product needs a moisture, food-grade or VCI barrier, then load the box evenly so weight sits over the corners and the walls stay square.
Cap and protect the edges
Fit the lid or full-telescoping cover, then run corner boards down the verticals so the straps grip without crushing the box edge.
Band and unitize
Strap the box, lid and pallet as one unit, then stretch-wrap to lock the stack. Now it is a single rigid object that double-stacks and survives the freight lane.
How the pieces fit together
From the pallet up: base, liner, box, product, lid, then band and wrap. Every layer has a job, and skipping one is where damage claims come from.
- Liner first if the product needs a moisture or dust barrier.
- Corner boards under the straps to protect edges and spread load.
- Lid then band to lock the stack and enable double-stacking.
- Stretch or dunnage to unitize and cushion for the road.
Buying by the truckload?
Bundle boxes, pallets and accessories on one order and one freight lane. And if you have surplus lids, pallets or straps piling up, we buy those too.
Loads that live or die on accessories
The heavier, wetter or more valuable the freight, the more the accessories earn their keep.
